CUSTOM ROMS: A boon

When it comes to smartphones, OEM's put many pre-installed apps and services to lower it's cost these are know as bloatware, they eat up resources in background as a result phone tends to slow down over time, this is all done to reduce the cost of the device, this is simply not limited to just smartphones even T.V.'s and computers have bloatware.

One way to tackle this problem is by using this method, but their is a caveat not all the unwanted services can be uninstalled this is where CUSTOM ROMS come to rescue.

Android and open source

Android is an open source library that means anyone can use it and compile their own versions of android and it is bloatware-free  i.e. stock android and you also don't have to worry about security as security patches are regular.

Custom Roms

These modified versions of android are called as custom roms, most of them have a great community of developers and people willing to help you regarding any problem. Some ROM's are specifically made for particular models while some (gsi's) are independent of model and a bit unstable.

You can install them on almost all android devices having Snapdragon chipset and some MediaTek soc's.
Please note again that custom ROM installation instructions can and do vary by device and ROM. If your ROM of choice comes with its own instructions, please follow them instead of this guide.

Steps for flashing Custom Roms: -

*Note: This will factory reset your device and all your data will be wiped out. So, it is advised to backup your data!!

Installing a custom ROM can void the warranty on some devices since it involves unlocking the bootloader. Proceed with caution as you can cause temporary/permanent damage to your device if you don’t follow all the steps correctly.

Sometimes, installation instructions can have some variations depending on your device. These are generic instructions. Please double-check with your device forums for variations.

1) Unlock the bootloader of your device. (guide: here)
2) Flash available recovery for you device since the default OEM recovery does not allow flashing. (guide: here)
3) Flash the .zip file for your ROM. (complete guide: here)

And BOOM! your device will be as fast as new and you don't have to worry about all those ads!!
